Selector Radio went to SXSW for the first time this year – and now all the musical goodness is available online.
There are four shows available, with over five hours of amazing live shows, behind the scenes chat and mixes including a banger-filled hour from award-winning presenter Jamz Supernova featuring new music from the likes of Scratcha DVA and Bianca Oblivion – and which was a Mixcloud Top Ten listen.
The Folded Wing-produced programme for The British Council selects the best new UK music and shares it with four million listeners in 30 countries every week – and we’ve been doing it now for over 20 years. It’s always an eclectic listen to the best all-genre sounds from the artists leading the way in UK music.
The first showcase programme includes music from Latinx queen Desta French, and the soul-soothing sounds of TYSON alongside Bristol-based collective Ishmael Ensemble, Belfast jazz agitators Robocobra Quartet and Jessica Winter.
There’s also the second showcase show, which gives a flavour of the whole SXSW experience. It includes chats with Austin-based Waterloo Records about their favourite UK imports and a quick word from Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham. Jamz also caught up with DJ Ace about his Everything R&B showcase and got some words from Yazmin Lacey after the Jazz Re:Freshed event.
Finally, the After Dark mix comes from SXSW guests Mandy, Indiana – an experimental band from Manchester who’ve recently signed to Brooklyn label Fire Talk. Their debut album i’ve seen a way is out on 19th May.
Listen to Selector Radio each week, for the best post-genre UK sounds.
