Team
Folded Wing founder and CEO is also a highly-skilled radio producer, DJ and was appointed a Fellow of the Radio Academy in 2022. She started out at the BBC, producing Gilles Peterson’s weekly show and was described by Time Out as ‘queen of the podcast’. She’s on the board of Audio UK, the organisation for independent audio production companies.
Logistics queen Nat looks after the whole administrative side of Folded Wing’s world. She’s a music lover with previous experience across tech, AI, events, recruitment and HR – and who also finds time to volunteer at Southend’s pre-school Trinket Box.
Bringing deep experience from speech radio at the BBC, across Radio 3, Radio 4 and the World Service, Karl joined Folded Wing as a producer in 2020. He’s dedicated to music, and brings his specialist music knowledge and curation to the weekly shows he produces – and to his DJ sets and monthly shows on Soho Radio.
Jardel’s student radio show at Manchester University explored the city’s R&B and soul sounds. It led to a place on BBC Radio 1’s Where It Begins internship and she started at Folded Wing in 2022. She’s a Production Assistant, coming up with ideas and dealing with all the background work a weekly show requires.
It was a stretch doing music licensing at PRS that preceded Assistant Producer Matthew’s arrival at Folded Wing in 2018. Trained in the Radio Broadcasting Diploma at Point Blank Music School, he now works on weekly shows for the BBC – when he’s not recording his own DJ mixes.
There are audio heavyweights and then there’s Ian. He has four decades of experience in journalism and broadcasting, reporting for the BBC during the 1990s then moving into senior production and management roles. He was responsible for BBC Radio1’s specialist shows and for setting up 1Xtra, and he’s been working with Folded Wing as an executive producer since Jamie Cullum's show launched on BBCRadio2.
Exec Producer Raeph prefers to remain in the background – but will divulge that his whole career has been focused on music, whether that’s working in record shops, running record labels (plural) or DJing internationally. He spent 15 years at the BBC before going back into artist and label management and returned to radio at the end of 2022 when he joined Folded Wing.
Assistant Producer Taylor made the move from blogging to community radio with a monthly show exploring underground female artists across neo soul, rap, jungle and drum n bass. She comes from a musical family – her granddad ran the legendary Count C’s Soundsystem. Most recently producing evening shows at BBC CWR, she also works with upcoming artists on her sibling-run music platform Fyah Kamp.
Producer and presenter Mari is turning Folded Wing Junior into a reality, bringing her deep experience producing radio shows for major Japanese stations including J-WAVE and InterFM. She was also head of programming for Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch her DJ sets at galleries like Tate Modern or at undercover music specialist spots deep in the city.
Self-confessed “vinyl nut” Frank spent a decade in radio, as both a producer and a reporter with a focus on arts, culture and underground music. His professional life straddled the BBC and brands like BA and Cercle, making him an excellent fit for Folded Wing, where he produces a weekly show for BBC Radio 1.
Folded Wing's freelance writer-in-residence helps out with all word-related tasks. She’s the author of Dance Your Way Home (Faber) as well as two publications she released on her own Sweet Machine imprint. She worked with Karen on the early days of Red Bull Music Academy Radio, made docs for the BBC, and her monthly radio show on Worldwide FM ran for six years.
