Multiple award nominations from the ARIAS and the New York Radio Festival came in last week for Folded Wing-produced programmes.

For The Love Of Hip Hop, presented by Romesh Ranganathan (BBC Radio 2, BBC Sounds) was nominated for Best Music Specialist Show at this years ARIAS, which are commonly known as the Oscars of UK radio and were previously known as Sony Awards. The show is one of only three BBC Radio 2 programmes across the awards.

Jamz Supernova’s Selector Radio, which is made with the British Council and is broadcast to 40 countries and three million listeners has also been nominated in the Music Specialist category, the second Folded Wing production in this list.

“Wow, what an honour to be nominated for an ARIA,” says Jamz. “My love for working on Selector grows every year and that’s thanks to the team and artists I’ve been able to support and learn about. It’s broadened and developed me as a tastemaker and broadcaster. I love the stories and pictures we’re able to paint about the UK music scene. It’s a joy to make and I hope it’s a joy to listen to.”

In 2022 Folded Wing won an ARIA for BARS with Lady Unchained for National Prison Radio. This year Lady Unchained has been nominated in Best Specialist Music Show for The Freeflow, produced by Prison Radio Association.

Alyx Holcombe who presents BBC Introducing... Rock was nominated for Best New Presenter at the ARIAs.  “We’re buzzing about Alyx being nominated for Best New Presenter” says Founder and CEO Karen P. “It’s proof that we mean what we say when we talk about nurturing talent on and off the mic.” Other nominees include Alex Kapranos for his Absolute Radio show and Kathy Burke for her show Where There’s A Will There’s A Wake.

For The Love Of Hip Hop (BBC Radio 2/BBC Sounds) and Jazz Meets Classical with China Moses and Jack Pepper (Jazz FM/Scala Radio) were also nominated for the prestigious New York Festivals Radio Awards for Best Regularly Scheduled Music Program and Best Music Special respectively.

“This is a nomination that the team deserve much more than me,” says Romesh, “and I’m not just saying that to sound humble. The Folded Wing team have been exceptional and it has been a dream to bring the music I love to Radio 2."
