Folded Wing looks forward to Field Day
31 January 2014, Posted in: Folded Wing Recommends

With the sound of icy rain hammering against the Folded Wing office windows, summer feels like a million miles away. But there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon in the form of festival line-up annoucements starting to trickle out. While the thought of going outside in fewer than ten layers, let alone being able to stand in the middle of Victoria Park nursing a refreshing cold beer, currently seems ridiculous, we’re very excited about how Field Day’s line-up is shaping up.

We recently produced Episode 19 of Field Day Radio, presented as usual by the festival’s boss Tom Baker, and featuring an interview with dance music wunderkind Daniel Avery, which you can listen to here. The next Field Day Radio show is in the pipeline too which we’ll be sharing with you very shortly, with London clubbing legend Erol Alkan in the interview hot seat this time. Daniel and Erol will be playing a back-to-back set at the festival which will be amazing, and for this week's blog we’ve chosen the acts we’re most looking forward to seeing at Field Day’s very first two day festival on 7th and 8th June. We’d love to hear which acts and festivals you’re excited about too – get in touch on Facebook or on twitter @FoldedWingUK.

Pixies

"I've been a big fan since the early 90s... ever since I saw the video for 'Monkey Gone To Heaven' on the old 'Chart Show' on ITV. It's a great booking for Field Day, and seeing them live again will no doubt bring back loads of  memories. I saw them at Brixton a couple of times back in the day and they don't mess about!"

Omar Souleyman

“I've always wanted to see Omar Souleyman play as I've heard so much about him and love his music. This one's my favourite mainly because of the video - in parts it's like a cooler, Middle Eastern version of The Verve's 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' video only with better dancing, better walking, better singing and better beats. Plus some quality use of green screen.”

Drenge

“Not many bands get name checked in a MP's resignation letter, but Drenge did! They may not have appreciated it but it opened them up to a whole bunch of new fans and they deserve it because they’re ruddy brilliant; really loud, bluesy guitars. Looking forward to see how much noise they can make on stage!”

All We Are

“Really looking forward to seeing All We Are. They played an amazing set at The Selector Club night in Liverpool and I cant wait to hear their new stuff live.”

Courtney Barnett

“I first fell for this Australian troubadour when I heard her track ‘David’ which pays homage/blatantly rips off the riff from ‘Jean Genie’. Someone bought me her double EP 'A Sea Of Split Peas' for my birthday in December and it’s made me want to see her live so much – her songwriting style is very storytelling based so I think she’d go down a treat at a festival.”
