“Every time I’ve heard a radio programme or podcast that I loved in the last few years it was nearly always Folded Wing who were behind it. They make wonderful, forward thinking shows that are always unique.”
Jamie Cullum
Our ‘Jamie Cullum’ show on BBC Radio 2 is the place where Jamie shares his love and genuine passion for music every Tuesday night from 7–8pm. The programme showcases all types of jazz and music rooted in jazz, from the heritage and the history to the new and upcoming future face of jazz.
As well as featuring sessions and interviews with jazz legends like Abdullah Ibrahim, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Gil Scott-Heron, the show is also an important platform for showcasing exciting, new talent such as Gregory Porter, Sara Mitra and Empirical. Other highlights on the show have included special programmes recorded at the Cheltenhem and Newport Jazz festivals, two part extended shows on film legend and jazz fan, Clint Eastwood, and piano giant, Dave Brubeck, and in-depth interviews with Wynton Marsalis, Pat Metheny, Paul McCartney, Kate Bush and little-known jazz lover, Lars Ulrich of Metallica!
Jamie’s show has been on air for over two years now and has become one of BBC Radio 2’s flagship shows. The programme is also now syndicated to stations around the world, from France to Canada, and has won three medals at the New York Festivals Radio Awards for ‘Best Jazz Format’ and ‘Best Regularly Scheduled Music Program’. A big highlight in 2011 was when Jamie and Simon Mayo took over the first hour of Chris Evans’ much coveted breakfast show for the launch of BBC Radio 2’s 2DAY event.
The Jamie Cullum podcast that sits alongside and promotes the radio show is also continuing to go from strength-to-strength following last year’s nomination for a BT Digital Music Award.
