Launched by The British Council in 2001, our show The Selector, presented by Goldierocks, is an international showcase for the best new music from the UK and is broadcast to over 4 million listeners in 34 countries across the world and growing by the week.

In October 2010 The Selector was launched on its new weekly UK platform, NME Radio from 6-8pm every Friday. Since then the show has launched in many more countries around the world, including Spain, Jordan, Malawi and Egypt.

The weekly two-hour programme covers all styles of contemporary music, from indie to grime, dubstep to disco, folk, soul, electro and everything in between.

On the show we have artist interviews with the likes of Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, The Hares, Fyfe Dangerfield, Carl Barat, Badly Drawn Boy, The Superimposers and Kid Adrift, DJ mixes from Teeth, L-Vis 1990, A1 Bassline, Mudd, Nick Luscombe, Brackles and Seiji, and sessions with artists such as Jamie Woon, Skinny Lister, Mike Marlin, Graffiti 6, Andreya Triana and Erland & The Carnival. We feature special one hour ‘After Dark’ mixes from UK club DJs that are broadcast on our overseas stations and produce a podcast version of The Selector that is hosted on SoundCloud.

We also collaborate with the British Council and visit stations around the world, such as Prijatelji Radio in Bosnia, teaching them about radio production techniques and helping build community radio platforms, whilst increasing The Selector’s partner stations overseas.

In 2011, The Selector won Best International Radio Show at the International Radio Festival in Zurich, a New York Festivals Radio Award for ‘Best Regularly Scheduled Music Program’, and was nominated for ‘Best Radio Show or Podcast’ at the BT Digital Music Awards.

In July we celebrated the 10th birthday of The Selector with a very special party at The Social in London including live sets from Michael Kiwanuka, Real Fur & Silkie. We’ve also held Selector events around the globe from Kazakhstan to Mauritius and Poland to Czech Republic.
