Launched by The British Council in 2001, our show The Selector, presented by Goldierocks, is an international showcase for the best new music from the UK and is broadcast to over 4 million listeners in 37 countries across the world, including Spain, Jordan, Malawi and Egypt, and is growing by the week.
The weekly two-hour programme covers all styles of contemporary music, from indie to grime, dubstep to disco, folk, soul, electro and everything in between.
On the show we have artist interviews with the likes of Jessie Ware, The 2 Bears, Portico Quartet, Egyptian Hip Hop, Carl Barat, Glass Animals, Esser and Wild Beasts, DJ mixes from Lakosa, Toby Tobias, Marc Mac, Mudd, iO, Mount Kimbie and Andrew Weatherall, and sessions with artists such as O Children, Lucy Rose, Belleruche, Woodpecker Wooliams, Jamie Woon and Andreya Triana. We feature special one hour ‘After Dark’ mixes from UK club DJs that are broadcast on our overseas stations and produce a podcast version of The Selector that is hosted on SoundCloud.
We host regular ‘Selector LIVE’ events in the UK, including a monthly gig that showcases the best in emerging talent. Acts who have appeared include the likes of All We Are, Clockwork Radio, Blue Daisy, The Invisible and Gaoler’s Daughter.
We also collaborate with the British Council and visit stations around the world, such as Prijatelji Radio in Bosnia, teaching them about radio production techniques and helping build community radio platforms, whilst increasing The Selector’s partner stations overseas.
In 2011, The Selector won Best International Radio Show at the International Radio Festival in Zurich, a New York Festivals Radio Award for ‘Best Regularly Scheduled Music Program’, and was nominated for ‘Best Radio Show or Podcast’ at the BT Digital Music Awards.
In 2011 we also celebrated the 10th birthday of The Selector with a very special party at The Social in London including live sets from Michael Kiwanuka, Real Fur & Silkie. We’ve also held Selector events around the globe from Albania to Morocco, and Kazakhstan to Mauritius.
You can listen to the show and check all the tracklists at www.selector-radio.com and on SoundCloud here >
