'Gone Too Soon: The Story of Aayliah' on BBC 1Xtra

Last night at 9pm ‘Gone Too Soon: The Story of Aaliyah’ presented by Trevor Nelson opened BBC 1Xtra’s month of documentaries celebrating the lives of black music icons who died too young.

Trevor Nelson looks back on the woman who defined R&B to discover her long-lasting influence on musicians today. We hear the story of the girl who went from R. Kelly’s hip hop soul protégée, to becoming the voice of some of the most influential records in R&B history. The programme features interviews from her close friends, colleagues, and current artists Ny, Sway, A Tribe Called Quest, Alex Mills and Brenmar.
