July marks six months since we started producing the Radio 2 Jazz Playlist Show with Jamie Cullum, where each week Jamie - or sometimes a special guest - introduces another hour of specially curated jazz music.
Read moreEach week the tracks are handpicked according to a different theme, allowing Jamie and the team to celebrate particular areas, icons and subgenres within jazz. So far there have been playlists exploring the music and influence of jazz legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker and Billy Strayhorn, as well as the favourite music of some of Jamie's guests on his main show, including Sir Michael Parkinson and Adam Buxton.
The playlists enable you to zoom in on particular aspects of this far-reaching genre, such as jazz drummers, or to celebrate music from specific places like Africa, the city of New Orleans, or the lineup of the North Sea Jazz Festival.
Sometimes Jamie hands over the reigns to a special guest curator to share the music they love - so far we've had brilliant playlists carefully crafted by the likes of musician, producer and songwriter Jamie Lidell, soul musician Omar, jazz pianist and composer Bugge Wesseltoft, and most recently the wonderful singer-songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist Gwyneth Herbert.
The playlists are broadcast on Radio 2 on Tuesday mornings at 2am, but you can also listen at any time via the BBC Music app - just download the app onto your smartphone and search 'Radio 2 Jazz'.
