06 September 2013, Posted in: In the studio

With Mercury nominations set to be announced next week, we thought we would all share who we would like to see get nominated for the award this year. Each member of the team has picked their favourite album from the last 12 months and picked two of their favourite tracks from the album, which you can listen to below each choice.

Jim - William Adamson - 'Under An East Coast Moon' (Discomix) (Brownswood Recordings)

“Both in its original and Discomix dub remix version, 'Under An East Coast Moon' is a really unique, fresh sounding record from William Adamson aka Earl Zinger aka Rob Gallagher... combining bluesy Tom Waits sounds and poetry with tales of Suffolk and Jamaican dub” - Jim

Favourite tracks:  A Foggy Dub (Discomix) / Velvets Eleven (Discomix)

Karen – GoGo Penguin – 'Fanfares' (Gondwana Records)

Another brilliant signing to Matthew Halsall's Gondwana label. One of my favourite jazz albums of the year. These guys from Manchester have so much energy; you have to see them live!  - Karen

Favourite tracks:  Fanfares / Last Words

Pete – Ed Harcourt – 'Back Into The Woods' (CCCLX Music)

"I picked up a promo copy of this for a pound in a record shop in May; it’s been my bedtime album pretty much every night since! A beautiful album, which was recorded in just six hours, the piano sounds beautiful and Ed’s voice is phenomenal, the best pound I’ve ever spent!" - Pete

Favourite Tracks: The Cusp & The Wane / Brothers And Sisters

John - Nadine Shah - 'Love Your Dum And Mad' (Apollo Records)

"Best debut LP I've heard for ages. She's just got an amazingly powerful voice, that really stirs the soul. Think you'd have to be a member of the cast of The Only Way Is Essex to fail to be moved by this album." - John

Favourite Tracks: Dreary Town / To Be A Young Man

Andrea - Melt Yourself Down – 'Melt Yourself Down' (The Leaf Label)

“I never thought jazz and punk could go together until I heard this record - brilliant. Haven't heard horns like that since 2002.” - Andrea

Favourite Tracks: Fix My Life / We Are Enough

Matt – Disclosure – “Settle” (PMR Records)

"Rarely see British dance music represented on the Mercury list so would love to see Disclosure up there. An album that takes the best elements of dance genres past and present and puts melody at the fore."  - Matt

Favourite Tracks: Running / Grab Her

So there you have it, that is who we would like to see nominated this year, all should be revealed next week!
