Ashby has been interested in radio since his late teens, when he was involved in various pirate and community radio stations in South London. He first heard of Folded Wing when as a student, he was invited to the 2010 Red Bull Music Academy in London, to document the academy and what it does, in an initiative between the Student Radio Association, Folded Wing and RBMA. Ashby captured audio from the academy, and produced a documentary about RBMA for his radio show on Leeds Student Radio. As a Production Assistant at Folded Wing, Ashby carries out research and interviews across all of Folded Wing’s output.
During his three years studying English Literature and Philosophy at University of Leeds, Ashby worked as a sound engineer on LSRfm, and produced and co-presented a specialist regional music show to act as a platform for the talent and diversity of music emerging in West Yorkshire.
Outside of radio, Ashby makes his own music, loves capturing sound and noise and plays acoustic guitar, frequenting folk and blues clubs in South London. He also has an ardent interest in reading and writing, and aside from contributing journalistic pieces for music websites like Resident Advisor and Pulse, he writes fiction and poetry bits and pieces for small London arts publications and literary websites.
