BT Digital Music Awards 2010 – Nomination for the Jamie Cullum BBC Radio 2 Podcast!

Fantastic news!

Our Jamie Cullum BBC Radio 2 Podcast has been nominated for a BT Digital Music Award in the ‘Best Radio Show or Podcast’ section! Some of the nominees who we’re up against are Adam & Joe, Jim Gellatly’s New Music and SFG TV.

The winner will be selected by the BT Digital Music Awards judges and announced on the awards’ night on 30^th September at the Roundhouse in Camden, London.

Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2 - Very special two part Clint Eastwood show coming up in September!

Very exciting news about the Jamie Cullum BBC Radio 2 show!

Film legend and jazz fan Clint Eastwood talks to Jamie in a rare interview to be broadcast over two weeks in September.

Recorded at Clint’s very own studio in Los Angeles, the special shows will be broadcast on Tuesday 7 and 14 September from 7 - 8pm and will include some of Clint’s favourite tracks from over the years.

Multiple award-winning film-maker, actor and director, Clint Eastwood has been involved in the movie industry for over 50 years but his passion for jazz precedes even his first appearance in a Hollywood movie. Clint has used jazz and jazz influenced music in some of his films over the years and collaborated with Jamie Cullum on the soundtrack to Gran Torino.

Jamie says: “Interviewing Clint Eastwood for my Radio 2 show was a true honour. He was overflowing with stories, good humour and enthusiasm for the chance to discuss his favourite topic - music. He has spent a lifetime immersed in jazz and not only picked some great music to listen to but had superb stories to weave around them.”

So that’s 7 & 14 September on BBC Radio 2 from 7 - 8pm… make sure it’s in your diaries!

Gil Scott-Heron, the legendary poet, musician and author whose work has influenced the fusion of jazz, soul and blues - and whose strong political views have found a voice in his music and have affected generations - gives a rare interview for Jamie Cullum.

Telling the story of what it was like growing up in Tennessee, the evidence of blues within his music and what jazz means to him, Gil reflects on his career and talks about the significance of his new album.

This week, Jamie heads to Rhode Island in the US for a special show recorded at the world famous Newport Jazz Festival. Artists performing there include Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, Ahmad Jamal and the Chick Corea Freedom Band.

From backstage at the festival, Jamie reports back on the atmosphere, chats to the artists and grabs live performances from a range of exciting musicians performing there.

So there’s fantastic Newport themed music, both old and new, from Ella Fitzgerald, Grace Kelly, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck & Wynton Marsalis (live at Newport 2010!), Ahmad Jamal, Christian McBride, and a very special track from Jamie recorded live at this year’s festival!

Vijay plays tracks from his recent trio album Historicity, his new release Solo, and talks about how he applies his love of mathematics to his music, as well as his wide range of influences including the Indian classical and religious music of his youth.

Plus there’s fantastic music from Chet Baker, Peggy Lee, Phronesis, Harry Belafonte, Herbie Hancock, Gábor Szabó, Son House and Rickie Lee Jones.

This week he plays a performance by the Ted Heath Orchestra session recorded for the Jazz Club in 1970.

Meanwhile, continuing in the spirit of the World Cup, Jamie revisits previously unheard sections of his Abdullah Ibrahim interview and plays a tune by the legendary South African pianist and composer.
